About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Investigate and settle liability, first-party, and third-party claims
  • Initiate investigations of new claims
  • Make liability and coverage decisions
  • Evaluate and negotiate settlements for collision, specified perils, property damage, and liability losses
  • Manage and oversee outside adjusters, appraisers, and experts
  • Establish contact with insureds and claimants within established protocols
  • Identify coverage issues and escalate them to the supervisor
  • Apply liability and coverage principles and state-specific laws and claims regulations
  • Research market values for automobiles and heavy equipment and recommend total-loss settlement values
  • Summarize claims and recommend disposition for claims exceeding settlement authority
  • Respond to intercompany arbitration hearings and department of insurance complaints
  • Manage a diary system to review and resolve claims within state compliance guidelines
  • Maintain state licensing through continuing education and/or work toward a claims designation
  • Handle small claim suits as needed
  • Perform other duties assigned by the claims supervisor

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • 2-5 years experience with auto physical damage, inland marine cargo, dealers' open lot, property damage (commercial and homeowners) and/or general liability
  • High School Diploma or Equivalent required
  • Bachelor’s degree is preferred
  • Experience with Lloyd’s of London is preferred
  • Must reside in the US
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office
  • Experience with Xactimate
  • Able to be licensed in states, countries where necessary
  • AIC designation preferred
  • Must pass a background check
  • Strong writing skills and proper use of grammar
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to multi-task and handle high volume of concurrent tasks
  • Ability to plan and exercise conscious control over time spent on activities
  • Ability to work collaboratively with others inside and outside the company
