About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Provide direct patient care under close supervision of an RN or Care Provider
- Implement nursing care based on prioritized patient needs, care plans, standards, and policies
- Provide preventive, emergent, crisis response, triage, acute care, and behavioral health care
- Maintain nursing scope of practice across infant, pediatric, and adult clinical care
- Obtain vital signs, identify abnormal findings, and report conditions to the RN or provider
- Safely administer medications
- Collect and process laboratory specimens and blood samples and establish IV access as ordered
- Perform specialized tasks including EKGs, Foley insertion, spirometry, and peak flow testing
- Document daily goals and plans of care accurately and completely
- Collect clinical data and contribute to plans of care with the RN
- Perform chart audits to promote quality improvement
- Report patient or family responses and changing conditions to the RN and help update care plans
- Provide care in the Downtown Detention Center or Denver County Jail correctional settings
Requirements
What you’ll need- High School Diploma or GED
- Completion of a nursing education program that satisfies the licensing requirements of the Colorado State Board of Nursing for Licensed Practical Nurse
- BLS-Basic Life Support (BLS/CPR) certification from the American Heart Association or American Red Cross required
- LPN-Licensed Practical Nurse license from the state licensing board required
- Less than 1 year of Correctional Care experience preferred
- Interpersonal communication skills to communicate with hospital staff and diverse patient population
- Ability to assist patients with personal hygiene
- Ability to transport patients, specimens, and supplies
- Knowledge of IV introduction and ability to monitor IVs
- Basic typing skills required
- Knowledge of appropriate charting procedures preferred
