About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Perform telephone triage under demanding, stressful, and repetitious conditions
- Collect patient data and make assessments
- Develop working diagnoses and determine interventions and disposition per guidelines
- Instruct patients/callers on evaluating normal and abnormal symptoms, treatment effectiveness, and when to call back
- Document symptoms, complaints, nursing assessments, advice, and patient/caller responses
- Follow policies, procedures, and protocols to improve healthcare outcomes and access
- Perform initial assessments for neonatal, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients
- Evaluate care advice for age appropriateness and differentiate normal from abnormal findings
- Identify learning needs and educate patients/callers through care advice and teach-back
- Assess for signs of abuse and make appropriate referrals
- Review medications, dosages, allergies, health history, and immunization status
- Analyze assessment data and select appropriate guidelines
- Perform QI, documentation, and audio audits
- Advise appropriate disposition and adjust disposition using nursing judgment
- Integrate quality improvement and audit findings into practice
- Identify process and operational improvement opportunities and collect supporting data
- Recognize learning needs and incorporate new knowledge into practice
Requirements
What you’ll need- Associate's Degree required
- 2-3 years of recent nursing experience required
- Advice line, Emergency Department, Urgent Care and/or Triage experience preferred
- BLS-Basic Life Support (BLS/CPR) certification from the American Heart Association or American Red Cross required
- RN-Registered Nurse license from DORA (Department of Regulatory Agencies) required
- Provides age-appropriate triage and treatment dispositions to all callers from newborn to adult, including OB and Worker's Compensation Injury Reporting
- Utilizes computer software and associated programs to triage and send reports to appropriate agencies or clinics
- Uses nursing judgment with computer software to reach appropriate dispositions and care advice
- Ability to respond appropriately to emergency situations
- Ability to apply nursing principles, practices and techniques
- Ability to exercise initiative and judgment in selecting proper treatment
- Ability to use computers and computer systems
- Computer skills required
- Bilingual skills preferred
