About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Perform routine and specialized technical support functions under the supervision of a Registered Nurse
  • Transport patients to and from the operating room, including lifting, positioning, and transferring patients
  • Communicate with Sterile Processing and circulating nurses about equipment, supplies, instrumentation, and positioning devices
  • Clean, disinfect, and set up operating rooms and surrounding areas according to infection-control protocols
  • Check and restock assigned areas and return equipment, supplies, instrumentation, and case carts
  • Assist with opening sterile supplies and timely room turnovers under RN supervision
  • Pick surgical cases according to preference cards
  • Operate and monitor sterilization equipment
  • Maintain accurate patient records, complete checklists, write narratives, and enter data into the EHR
  • Assist with disposition of surgical specimens and hazardous materials
  • Participate in emergency response situations under medical staff direction
  • Manage patient volume, prioritize work, anticipate needs, and coordinate care across departments
  • Promote teamwork and support across functions and departments
  • Identify safety and infection-control issues and follow hospital policies

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • 1-3 years clinical experience in a hospital setting
  • Required BLS-Basic Life Support (BLS/CPR) certification from the American Heart Association or American Red Cross
  • Knowledge of and ability to use medical equipment and instruments to administer patient care
  • Knowledge of common safety hazards and precautions to establish a safe work environment
  • Skill in maintaining records and recording test results
  • Ability to maintain quality control standards
  • Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations
  • Ability to interpret, adapt, and apply guidelines and procedures
  • Ability to communicate clearly
  • Must pass a pre-employment drug test for safety-sensitive positions after a conditional offer
  • No high school diploma and/or no GED
