About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Perform routine and specialized technical support functions under the supervision of a Registered Nurse
- Transport patients to and from operating room, preoperative area, and PACU while ensuring comfort, safety, confidentiality, and privacy
- Assist with lifting, positioning, and transferring patients
- Communicate with Sterile Processing and circulating nurses regarding equipment, supplies, instrumentation, and positioning devices
- Check, clean, restock, and organize assigned areas
- Return equipment, supplies, instrumentation, and case carts to appropriate locations
- Clean and set up operating rooms between cases and assist with timely room turnovers
- Open sterile supplies under RN supervision
- Pick surgical cases according to preference cards
- Practice operating room sanitation, disinfection, infection control, and safety standards
- Maintain accurate patient status and care records, complete checklists, write narratives, and enter data into the eHR
- Manage patient workload according to volume, acuity, cases, census, and department needs
- Coordinate care with other departments to ensure timely delivery of services
- Participate in emergency response situations under medical staff direction
- Assist with proper disposition of surgical specimens and hazardous materials
- Seek additional assignments during low volumes and support teamwork across departments
Requirements
What you’ll need- 1-3 years clinical experience in a hospital setting
- BLS-Basic Life Support (BLS/CPR) certification from the American Heart Association or American Red Cross required
- Knowledge of and ability to use medical equipment and instruments to administer patient care
- Knowledge of common safety hazards and precautions to establish a safe work environment
- Skill in maintaining records and recording test results
- Ability to maintain quality control standards
- Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations
- Ability to interpret, adapt and apply guidelines and procedures
- Ability to communicate clearly
