About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Perform routine and specialized technical support functions under the supervision of a Registered Nurse
- Transport patients to and from the operating room, Preoperative area, and PACU while ensuring comfort, safety, confidentiality, and privacy
- Assist with lifting, positioning, and transferring patients
- Communicate with Sterile Processing and circulating nurses regarding equipment, positioning devices, supplies, and instrumentation
- Clean, disinfect, stock, and set up operating rooms and assigned areas between cases
- Assist in opening sterile supplies under RN supervision and support timely room turnovers
- Pick cases according to preference cards, including equipment and positioning devices
- Practice OR sanitation, disinfection, infection control, and safety standards
- Operate and monitor sterilization equipment
- Maintain accurate patient status and care records; complete checklists, narratives, and eHR data entry
- Manage patient load and adjust care based on volume, acuity, cases, census, and department needs
- Coordinate care with other departments for timely delivery of services
- Assist with disposition of surgical specimens and hazardous materials
- Participate in emergency response situations under medical staff direction
- Seek assistance when needed and promote support across work groups and departments
Requirements
What you’ll need- 1–3 years of clinical experience in a hospital setting
- BLS-Basic Life Support (BLS/CPR) certification from the American Heart Association or American Red Cross required
- Knowledge of medical equipment and instruments used to administer patient care
- Knowledge of common safety hazards and precautions
- Skill in maintaining records and recording test results
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships
- Ability to maintain quality control standards
- Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations
- Ability to interpret, adapt, and apply guidelines and procedures
- Ability to communicate clearly
- Must pass a pre-employment drug test for safety-sensitive positions after a conditional offer
- No high school diploma and/or no GED
