About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Provide professional nursing care in accordance with American Nurses Association standards and Code of Ethics
- Provide clinical care in correctional settings at Downtown Detention Center or Denver County Jail
- Provide infant, pediatric, and adult clinical care
- Provide preventive, emergent, crisis-response, triage, acute-care, and behavioral-health care
- Provide specialty care including eating disorders, oncological care, and IV therapy
- Monitor, record, and report symptoms, vital signs, and changes in patient condition
- Maintain accurate, detailed reports and records
- Develop and modify patient care and treatment plans based on patient responses and conditions
- Consult and coordinate with healthcare team members to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate care
- Monitor diet and physical activity
- Direct and supervise less-skilled nursing and healthcare personnel
- Prepare patients for and assist with examinations and treatments
- Assess individuals, families, and communities for potential health or safety problems
- Provide health education, disease prevention, and aftercare instruction
- Administer nursing care to ill, injured, convalescent, or disabled patients
- Administer, document, and reassess medications
- Perform Lead/Relief Charge Nurse duties
- Apply environmental awareness, critical thinking, and decisive decision-making in a high-security correctional environment
Requirements
What you’ll need- Associate's Degree required
- One year of experience in a direct patient care setting required
- Less than 1 year of Correctional Care experience preferred
- BLS-Basic Life Support (BLS/CPR) certification from the American Heart Association or American Red Cross required
- RN-Registered Nurse license from the Department of Regulatory Agencies (DORA) required
- Adherence to Standards of Professional Nursing Practice/Process/Performance and accrediting body standards
- Completion of clinical competency standards
- Ability to use medical equipment and instruments to administer patient care
- Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations
- Ability to interpret, adapt, and apply guidelines and procedures
- Ability to communicate clearly
- Microsoft Office Suite required
- EPIC documentation preferred
- Applicants for safety-sensitive positions must pass a pre-employment drug test after a conditional offer
