About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Provide comprehensive holistic pre-health advising to DePaul students, recent alumni, Pathways Honors Program students, and Post-baccalaureate Pre-health Program students
  • Coach students through graduate health professions application processes
  • Advise on prerequisite course planning, experiential learning, clinical opportunities, leadership opportunities, shadowing, volunteering, research, and health professions exploration
  • Provide one-to-one and group advising
  • Split the pre-health advising caseload 50-50 with the other pre-health advisor
  • Split the Pathways Honors Program academic advising caseload 50-50 and support student-facing program administration
  • Advise the Pathways Honors Program student executive board
  • Support student event programming, assessment, and budget management
  • Oversee the program's midpoint application process
  • Serve as an ex-officio member of the Pre-health Advising Committee
  • Draft committee letters of recommendation
  • Design and facilitate presentations for student orientations
  • Network with prospective students and guests at recruitment events
  • Collaborate with faculty, staff, and DePaul stakeholders to advocate for pre-health students
  • Participate in NAAHP conferences to stay current with pre-health advising trends and best practices
  • Participate in annual Commencement and College of Science and Health Honors Celebration
  • Work some evening and weekend hours during peak operations and recruitment events

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor's degree is required
  • Master's degree in higher education, education, counseling, student affairs, or related fields is preferred
  • One to three years of experience in academic advising, pre-health advising, counseling, event planning, admissions, student affairs or equivalent in an education setting, preferably at a university or graduate health professions school
  • Strong counseling and advising skills
  • Strong program and event planning skills
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Strong organization skills
  • Ability to take initiative
  • Strong problem-solving skills
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Strong verbal, written, and presentation skills
  • Ability to communicate with a diverse population of students, faculty, and staff
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office and web browser tools
  • Knowledge of various graduate health professions application processes preferred
