About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Design, deploy, and manage AWS RDS and Aurora environments, including Aurora, MariaDB, and Postgres
- Operate and optimize Apache Cassandra clusters in distributed, multi-region environments
- Build and maintain database infrastructure using Terraform
- Develop reusable Terraform modules for RDS provisioning, networking and security configurations, and backup and disaster recovery policies
- Implement high availability and disaster recovery strategies, including multi-AZ, replicas, and cross-region failover
- Define and enforce database platform standards for provisioning, configuration, and monitoring
- Optimize performance through query tuning, indexing strategies, and parameter tuning
- Build observability and monitoring solutions using CloudWatch, Prometheus, Grafana, and New Relic
- Automate operational workflows and integrate with CI/CD pipelines
- Support database migrations from on-premises to AWS and from RDBMS to Cassandra where applicable
- Partner with engineering teams on schema design, data modeling, and scalability patterns
- Participate in on-call rotations and drive incident response and root cause analysis
Requirements
What you’ll need- 3+ years in database engineering, SRE, or platform engineering roles
- Strong hands-on experience with AWS RDS / Aurora in production environments
- Terraform required, not optional
- Experience working with distributed databases such as Cassandra
- Deep understanding of high availability and disaster recovery strategies, performance tuning, and capacity planning
- Strong knowledge of the AWS ecosystem, including RDS, EC2, VPC, IAM, and CloudWatch
- Experience building and maintaining Infrastructure as Code at scale, including Terraform modules, state management, and CI/CD integration
- Linux systems administration experience
- Strong troubleshooting and production incident management skills
- Nice to have: experience with Kubernetes-based database deployments, AWS DMS or migration frameworks, DataStax, Astra DB or managed Cassandra services, DevOps/GitOps workflows, and multi-cloud environments
