About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Serve as Distyl's first HR Business Partner, reporting directly to the Head of People
- Partner with managers and leaders on team performance, structure, hiring plans, and difficult conversations
- Coach managers and individual contributors through growth, feedback, and transitions
- Define evidence-backed frameworks for scalable, fair, and thoughtful people systems
- Advise managers on compensation bands, offers, promotions, and merit decisions
- Lead team-level organizational design and change, including design, sequencing, communications, and follow-through
- Analyze engagement data, attrition signals, and employee feedback to identify organizational issues
- Use AI tools for documentation, analysis, preparation, and repeatable systems
- Help define and build Distyl's core HR business-partnering capabilities
Requirements
What you’ll need- At least 5 to 8 years in HR with a background in business partnering
- Experience supporting engineers, researchers, or technical leaders at a technology company strongly preferred
- Experience inside an AI or applied-AI company is a plus
- Experience coaching employees and managers through difficult moments
- Experience navigating complex employee relations issues and organizational changes
- Ability to read compensation bands, explain leveling decisions, and assess off-cycle requests and exceptions
- Experience running at least one team-level restructure or leader transition from design through communications and follow-through
- Systems-thinking ability to distinguish symptoms from causes
- Experience operating without a playbook and creating processes
- Experience in a high-growth startup environment preferred
- Must commute to the San Francisco or New York office at least three days per week
- Must be authorized to work in the U.S.
