About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Manage the processing of permissions and other regulatory applications for the region
  • Provide statutory and regulatory advice on complex and strategic issues
  • Apply Te Ao Māori and iwi/hapū perspectives to advice, assessments, and recommendations
  • Engage with iwi, hapū, applicants, and stakeholders to support timely, well-informed decisions
  • Identify efficiencies and improve systems, processes, and customer and partner experience
  • Provide clear, culturally competent advice and updates to internal and external stakeholders
  • Collaborate across teams and disciplines to deliver a high-quality regulatory service
  • Support cross-functional projects and undertake other tasks as required

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • A tertiary qualification in regulatory, statutory legal or a related field would be advantageous
  • Demonstrated ability to apply legislation, policy, and statutory processes to assess risk, complexity, and priority
  • Knowledge of New Zealand conservation or environmental legislation would be advantageous
  • Strong analytical, judgement, and decision-making skills
  • Ability to interpret technical information, assess risk and complexity, and provide sound advice and recommendations
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines
  • Experience understanding and applying iwi/hapū perspectives to inform decisions
  • Problem-solving and continuous-improvement mentality
  • Ability to act with integrity and deliver meaningful results
  • Collaborative approach and ability to build rapport with a range of people
  • Understanding of the Māori–Crown relationship in DOC responsibilities and decision-making
  • Full NZ Driver Licence
  • Valid NZ work visa covering the duration of employment
