About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Manage processing of permissions and other regulatory applications for the region
- Provide statutory and regulatory advice on complex and strategic issues
- Apply Te Ao Māori and iwi/hapū perspectives to advice, assessments, and recommendations
- Engage with iwi, hapū, applicants, and stakeholders to support timely, well-informed decisions
- Identify efficiencies, strengthen processes, and improve customer and partner experience
- Provide clear, culturally competent advice and updates to internal and external stakeholders
- Collaborate across teams and disciplines to deliver a high-quality regulatory service
- Support conservation outcomes across the Hauraki, Waikato and Taranaki Region
Requirements
What you’ll need- A tertiary qualification in regulatory, statutory legal or a related field would be advantageous
- Some experience applying policy, statutory processes, and legislation to assess risk, complexity, and priority
- Understanding of the natural resource policy environment
- Knowledge of New Zealand conservation and environmental legislation, including associated statutory processes, would be advantageous
- Ability to gather and interpret information to provide technical advice to applicants and stakeholders
- Excellent communication skills and ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines
- Experience understanding and applying iwi/hapū perspectives to inform decisions
- Problem-solving and continuous-improvement mindset
- Ability to act with integrity and deliver meaningful results
- Ability to collaborate and build rapport with a range of people
- Understanding of the Māori–Crown relationship in DOC responsibilities and decision-making
- Must hold a valid NZ work visa covering the duration of employment
