About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Design and implement the next generation of Doctronic's AI doctor architecture, including reasoning, reflection, verification, tool use, routing, uncertainty handling and escalation
  • Build systems where specialized agents and models work together to make clinical decisions safely, reliably and efficiently
  • Build evaluation platforms, rubrics, simulations and experiments to measure AI doctor performance
  • Identify improvements across reasoning, retrieval, model behavior, data and engineering, and validate whether interventions improve the system
  • Apply fine-tuning, distillation, reinforcement learning, preference optimization, prompt optimization and system optimization
  • Build training data, feedback, reward and experimentation pipelines
  • Build search, ranking, retrieval and grounding algorithms connecting clinical reasoning to trusted medical evidence, partner-specific content and patient context
  • Evaluate retrieval based on downstream clinical decisions
  • Own problems end-to-end, from framing through measuring results
  • Collaborate with clinical, product and engineering partners
  • Advance AI systems that improve clinical safety, accuracy and autonomy while scaling Doctronic's AI doctor

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Deep experience in at least two of: agentic architectures, reasoning systems and tool use; model evaluation, experimentation and rubric design; model training, fine-tuning, distillation or reinforcement learning; search, ranking, retrieval or RAG
  • Strong ML fundamentals, including training data, objectives, metrics, failure analysis, calibration and validation
  • Strong engineering fundamentals; ability to build real systems, not just notebooks or one-off experiments
  • Clear communication and collaboration across engineering, clinical and product teams
  • Typically, an advanced degree in a quantitative, computational or scientific discipline and 3+ years of highly relevant applied or research experience in AI/ML; or 7+ years of relevant experience building and researching ML systems, including recent hands-on work with LLMs and generative AI
  • Experience in at least two listed AI/ML specialization areas
  • Bonus: published research, patents, meaningful open-source contributions or novel production ML systems
  • Bonus: early-stage or high-growth company experience
  • Bonus: healthcare, clinical AI or regulated/safety-critical domain experience, including HIPAA, FHIR, EHR or HL7 familiarity
  • Bonus: human-feedback systems, RLHF, simulation or synthetic-data generation
  • Bonus: AI safety, bias detection, calibration or fairness experience
  • Willingness to work in-person in a hybrid arrangement from the New York City or San Francisco offices
  • Employment visa sponsorship requirements must be disclosed
