About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Define and conduct research projects using scientific principles, theory, and experimental design across adjacent disciplines
- Develop and implement technical solutions through hands-on experimentation and problem-solving
- Apply the Scientific Method to plan and execute experiments and formulate hypotheses
- Use Six Sigma tools and methodology to solve complex regional or global problems
- Define, design, and implement novel experimental and computational capabilities
- Communicate and document work through technical reports, presentations, and publications
- Monitor relevant technology developments and identify beneficial applications for Dow
- Analyze patent and journal literature and incorporate competitive landscapes into technology mapping
- Work with the legal department to manage intellectual property, secure freedom to practice, and patent new technologies
- Influence external technology development through publications, patents, and presentations
- Build partnerships with R&D, manufacturing, and business teams
- Serve on multidisciplinary project teams and provide technical input
- Follow EH&S standards, policies, and procedures; promote safe work habits
- Mentor junior scientists and technologists
- Use theory, experimentation, and modeling to understand chemical-reaction fundamentals
- Work with automated tubular, fixed-bed, and stirred-tank systems and advanced analytical techniques
Requirements
What you’ll need- PhD in Chemical Engineering required
- Minimum 3 years of relevant industry/field experience required; 5 or more years preferred
- Demonstrated value creation across multiple disciplines and organizations
- Understanding of statistical parameter estimation and model discrimination
- Ability to work legally in the United States
- No visa sponsorship/support available, including for any type of U.S. permanent residency process
- Willingness to travel up to 10%
- Strong understanding of phase equilibrium, heat and mass transfer, reactor contacting patterns, reaction kinetics, and reactor modeling
- Expertise in process simulation and modeling with Aspen Plus, Python, Athena Visual, and Matlab
- Ability to collaborate with stakeholders and external customers
- Ability to lead and work as part of cross-functional teams
- Ability to write code, including custom modules for process simulators and/or scripts for simulation-results analysis
- Background in intellectual property, including patent filing, competitive analysis, and prior art searches
- Strong record of innovation documentation in journals and patents
- No relocation assistance offered
