About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Lead all Canadian direct tax activities end to end, including compliance, tax accounting, controversy, transfer pricing governance, and tax incentives
- Own Canada’s direct tax strategy and governance
- Oversee external advisor preparation of Canadian corporate income tax compliance for all entities, including federal and provincial filings
- Ensure Canadian tax balances in financial statements are accurate and complete
- Lead Canadian federal and provincial corporate income tax audits, including query management, response coordination, and resolution of CRA/provincial notices of assessment and reassessment
- Serve as escalation point for CRA/provincial matters, including audits, authorizations, waivers, collections, and dispute resolution
- Escalate high-impact audit items to Dow Tax’s Controversy and Risk Management team as needed
- Provide oversight for Canadian transfer pricing compliance, including information returns and contemporaneous documentation prepared by external advisors
- Oversee SR&ED and tax incentive portfolio, including claim accuracy, advisor coordination, and integration with income tax filings
- Act as senior tax advisor for Canadian planning and legal entity transactions
- Lead Canadian tax process improvements and initiatives aligned with global tax strategy and reporting objectives
- Work directly with Tax and Canadian leadership to support key Dow priorities, including Path2Zero
Requirements
What you’ll need- Minimum of a bachelor’s degree or relevant military experience at or above a U.S. E5 or Canadian Petty Officer 2nd Class or Sergeant ranking
- 8 or more years of relevant experience, such as Canadian corporate income tax, tax accounting, and tax controversy
- Ability to work legally in Canada
- No visa sponsorship/support is available, including for any type of Canada permanent residency process
- Canadian CPA or equivalent professional designation preferred
- Prior experience in global tax, cross-border tax matters, and/or multinational environments preferred
- Occasional travel may be required to support efforts at Canadian sites
- No relocation assistance
