About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Source, negotiate with, and secure qualified transportation carriers and drivers for available freight
- Dispatch shipments with accurate load, pickup, delivery, routing, customer, handling, and security information
- Confirm carrier and driver readiness before dispatch
- Maintain regular communication with carriers and drivers from dispatch through final delivery
- Monitor pickup, loading, in-transit progress, delivery, and shipment milestones
- Track and trace active shipments and maintain real-time status information in the TMS and other systems
- Identify and resolve delays, missed appointments, route deviations, communication gaps, service failures, and shipment exceptions
- Coordinate with carriers, drivers, Operational Account Managers, and internal teams
- Escalate significant service, security, capacity, and operational concerns
- Ensure compliance with DSV, customer, operational, and HRHV freight requirements
- Collect, review, and maintain carrier and shipment documentation
- Verify shipment completion and documentation before closing loads in the TMS
- Develop carrier and driver relationships and expand DSV's carrier network
- Negotiate carrier rates based on lane requirements, market conditions, capacity, service expectations, and pricing guidelines
- Provide carrier pricing, capacity information, and market intelligence to Operational Account Managers
- Identify transportation solutions balancing service, security, capacity, and cost
- Support onboarding and development of qualified carrier partners
- Monitor transportation market conditions, capacity availability, rate trends, and seasonal fluctuations
- Maintain accurate carrier, driver, pricing, shipment, dispatch, and operational information
- Handle sensitive customer, shipment, carrier, driver, pricing, and business information confidentially
- Perform other duties and project work assigned by management
Requirements
What you’ll need- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Associate's or bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Transportation, or a related field preferred
- Minimum of 1 year of experience in logistics, transportation, freight brokerage, dispatch, carrier sales, or a related field required; 3 or more years preferred
- Experience with Transportation Management Systems (TMS) required
- Knowledge of transportation operations, dispatch processes, carrier requirements, and industry practices
- Strong dispatch, load coordination, and shipment management skills
- Strong carrier and driver relationship management skills
- Strong negotiation, persuasion, and influencing abilities
- Strong understanding of freight brokerage, carrier capacity, and transportation operations
- Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
- Professional and confident phone presence
- Ability to manage multiple active shipments, carrier communications, and changing operational priorities simultaneously
- Strong problem-solving, decision-making, analytical, mathematical, organizational, and prioritization skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and working knowledge of Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Teams, Outlook, and standard business applications
- Ability to use TMS, shipment tracking platforms, and transportation technology
- Ability to work under pressure, adapt to changing operational needs, work independently, and collaborate with internal teams
- Bilingual English/Spanish skills preferred
- Ability to sit and work at a computer for extended periods and use standard office equipment
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, reach, and occasionally lift or move items weighing up to 20 pounds
