About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Engage a culture of safety throughout the campus by educating and influencing leaders
  • Support planning, development, delivery, and evaluation of safety policies, programs, and training
  • Promote employee safety and compliance with legal regulations and department policies
  • Ensure compliance with federal and state OSHA rules and regulations
  • Develop, conduct, evaluate, and modify occupational safety training
  • Identify training needs and coordinate employee training schedules
  • Maintain HSE training records and notify managers of requirements or deficiencies
  • Conduct and facilitate monthly safety meetings
  • Maintain accident statistics, analyze trends, and propose remedial actions
  • Investigate or arrange investigations of accidents and near-misses; prepare reports and recommendations
  • Liaise with DSV Corporate Safety and third-party administrators on workers’ compensation claims
  • Manage return-to-work programs
  • Conduct on-site observations and job-site safety compliance inspections
  • Advise management and employees on occupational health and safety issues
  • Maintain first-aid supplies
  • Implement systems to comply with applicable HSE laws and regulations
  • Communicate HSE goals, action plans, results, KPI scores, and required data
  • Consult with Corporate Safety and local leadership on best-practice policies and procedures
  • Communicate changes in HSE legislation and corporate processes
  • Represent DSV with OSHA, EPA, DOT, DHS, and other regulatory agencies alongside site leadership
  • Implement and monitor Emergency Management System procedures, including annual fire evacuation and severe weather drills
  • Perform OSHA recordkeeping, reporting, and program maintenance
  • Perform other duties as required

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • One to two years related experience and/or training directly related to the duties and responsibilities
  • Prior experience in safety observations/inspections and developing and implementing compliance strategies and plans
  • Knowledge of OSHA and other federal safety standards, principles, practices and techniques
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
  • Good verbal and written communication skills
  • Interpersonal skills to establish and maintain effective working relationships
  • Working knowledge of computerized applications, including word processing, spreadsheet, database, presentation software, and email
  • Willingness to work different shifts as dictated by business needs
  • Ability to lift up to 40 lbs. while following proper lifting procedures
  • Ability to stand for up to 8 hours per day
  • Preferred: Professional accreditation in a safety or environmental field
  • Preferred: Experience leading and facilitating team and cross-functional meetings
  • Preferred: Bilingual English/Spanish
