About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Provide day-to-day health, safety, and environmental support to site leadership and operating teams
- Coach, teach, and train site personnel on safe operating behaviors
- Design, develop, and implement safety and risk-control programs
- Ensure compliance with DSV safety policies, procedures, statutory requirements, and applicable HSE laws and regulations
- Serve as a subject matter expert and consultant to help internal clients build sustainable loss-improvement processes
- Maintain safety metrics, IFR statistics, HSE KPIs, action plans, reports, and facility performance profiles
- Establish HSE goals aligned with corporate and site vision
- Ensure qualified HSE resources and required safety systems are in place
- Develop and monitor risk-assessment strategies and ensure assessments are completed
- Design, implement, and monitor workplace safety audits
- Represent DSV with OSHA, EPA, DOT, DHS, and other regulatory agencies
- Audit facilities and personnel for safety and environmental deficiencies and address issues promptly
- Manage workers’ compensation claims through closure
- Investigate accidents and near misses, prepare reports and recommendations, and implement approved corrective actions
- Maintain OSHA recordkeeping, reporting, required programs, and training
- Implement emergency-management procedures and conduct annual fire evacuation and severe-weather drills
- Deliver safety training for new hires and ensure employees can identify workplace hazards
- Ensure environmental compliance and identify continuous environmental-improvement opportunities
- Coordinate environmental management and sustainability integration into policies, rules, and operations
- Complete applicable USEPA and environmental-agency reporting and recordkeeping
- Communicate HSE matters, problems, and solutions to site leadership, staff, and relevant stakeholders
- Perform other duties assigned by the General Manager
Requirements
What you’ll need- High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
- 3 years’ experience working in a logistics/distribution/relevant environment
- Prior experience in safety observations/inspections and developing and implementing compliance strategies and plans
- Knowledge of safety and health management systems and practices
- Satisfactory completion of a forklift training program
- Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, and PowerPoint)
- Experience with RF scanners
- Knowledge of WMS functions
- English reading, writing, and verbal skills
- Business communication skills
- Basic to intermediate mathematical skills for verifying product quantities, counting inventory, and related duties
- Ability to work flexible schedules, including nights and weekends, as required by the operation
- Ability to participate in cross-training activities and provide backup support
- Ability to adapt to change and thrive in a stimulating, fast-paced work environment
- Prior MHE certification/knowledge of basic MHE operation preferred
