About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Lead and manage the day-to-day operations of the Ocean Export department
- Ensure export shipments are processed efficiently, accurately, and in accordance with customer requirements, company procedures, and industry regulations
- Provide operational leadership and drive team performance
- Maintain service quality and achieve departmental objectives and customer expectations
- Build and maintain relationships with customers, carriers, overseas offices, transport providers, and internal stakeholders
- Monitor performance and ensure SLA and KPI commitments are met
- Identify opportunities for continuous improvement, operational efficiencies, and business growth
- Run daily exception reports and manage issues with staff
- Manage productivity and internal and external metrics daily, weekly, and monthly
- Evaluate service levels and drive metric performance
- Manage customer relationships and service delivery
- Ensure process compliance, data quality, and operational governance
- Process ocean export shipments end to end
- Support sales in achieving growth targets
- Support operations with queries and manage customer expectations
- Identify and target opportunities for improved efficiencies
- Identify problems in project design and evaluate alternative methods
- Directly supervise staff
- Ensure accurate and timely reporting
- Improve operational processes and efficiency
- Manage new processes or system developments with operations
- Manage staff and career development to support retention and progression
Requirements
What you’ll need- Grade 12
- Minimum 7 years’ experience in ocean freight forwarding Import and Export
- Minimum 2 years in a supervisory role
- Own Transport
- Ability to work overtime / after hours when required
- Knowledge of current Incoterms
- Knowledge of international freight forwarding
- Excellent communication skills
- Good planning and self-management skills
- Knowledge of Hazardous/Dangerous Goods
