About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Manage the day-to-day operations of the ocean import department
- Ensure compliance with customs regulations and company policies
- Supervise a team of ocean import freight forwarders and coordinators
- Communicate with internal and external stakeholders to ensure timely and cost-effective delivery of shipments
- Resolve issues related to customs, documentation, and shipment delays
- Coordinate with ocean carriers, trucking companies, and other service providers
- Ensure accurate and timely data entry into the company's transportation management system
- Provide guidance and training to team members on import regulations and procedures
- Prepare reports and metrics related to import operations
Requirements
What you’ll need- Bachelor's degree in logistics, transportation, or a related field is preferred
- Relevant work experience may be considered in lieu of formal education
- Minimum of 3–5 years of experience in ocean import operations, including experience in a supervisory role
- In-depth knowledge of import regulations and customs procedures
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and prioritize tasks
- Attention to detail and accuracy
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and transportation management systems
- Fluent in English (oral and written)
- Certified Customs Specialist (CCS) or Certified Customs Broker (CCB) designation preferred
- Experience with SAP or other enterprise resource planning systems preferred
- Knowledge of import regulations and procedures for other transportation modes (air, land) preferred
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and transportation management systems is required
