About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Supervise inbound, outbound, product slotting, customer communication, receiving, warehousing, and shipping activities
  • Manage labor, scheduling, space utilization, equipment, and manpower
  • Hire and train employees, assign daily work, conduct performance appraisals, address performance issues, and resolve problems
  • Conduct staff meetings and support continuous improvement
  • Keep senior management and client representatives informed of critical operational issues
  • Develop systems and procedures for safely and profitably managing operations, equipment, and products
  • Manage operations to meet productivity, service, quality, KPI, and client-agreement objectives
  • Implement and report cost-saving measures and recommend operational efficiencies
  • Provide direction and support to Human Resources
  • Assist with hiring, training, professional development, promotions, wage increases, and other HR activities
  • Train and evaluate warehouse staff and assess trainee progress
  • Plan daily work schedules using work orders, arrival notices, customer instructions, priorities, and available resources
  • Assign duties and supervisory responsibilities to warehouse staff and team leads
  • Review pending jobs and trends and plan warehouse-space, supply, equipment, and staffing changes
  • Monitor job quantity and quality and provide guidance as needed
  • Keep the Operations Manager or Distribution Center Manager informed of daily progress and problems
  • Assist with physical operations as needed
  • Motivate team members, provide growth opportunities, conduct performance reviews, and support adherence to corporate and client SOPs

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
  • 3 years’ experience working in a logistics, distribution, or relevant environment
  • 1 year experience in a supervisory role
  • Satisfactory completion of a forklift training program
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
  • Experience with RF scanners
  • Knowledge of WMS functions
  • English reading, writing, and verbal skills
  • Business communication skills
  • Basic to intermediate mathematical skills for verifying product quantities and counting inventory
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy
  • Good organizational and personnel skills
  • Good written and oral communication skills
  • Good leadership, supervision, and planning skills
  • Ability to work flexible schedules, including nights and weekends
  • Ability to participate in cross-training activities
  • Ability to adapt to change and thrive in a fast-paced work environment
  • Ability to work mandatory or voluntary overtime as required
  • Ability to work in warehouse temperatures ranging from mild to moderate during warmer and colder months
  • Ability to perform the physical demands of the role, including walking, standing, sitting, bending, reaching above the shoulder, squatting, kneeling, and lifting/carrying/pushing/pulling 11–20 pounds
