About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Collect medical histories and monitor vital signs
  • Explain treatments to patients and prepare patients for exams and procedures
  • Assist medical staff with patient care
  • Gather and prepare lab samples and conduct basic lab tests
  • Perform EKGs, remove sutures/staples and change dressings
  • Educate patients and families about care and document in medical records
  • Dispose of contaminated supplies, process instruments and clean medical equipment
  • Call in prescriptions, prepare and give medications as instructed by the doctor, and handle prescription refills
  • Perform other clinical tasks assigned by the doctor
  • Greet patients, answer calls and schedule appointments, including arrival in Maestro Care
  • Check out patients and handle referral scheduling
  • Coordinate hospital admissions and lab services and update medical records
  • Complete forms, receive copays, collect balances, handle correspondence and order supplies
  • Assist with clinic activities such as Joint Commission or fall prevention efforts and participate in clinic committees

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Certified Medical Assistant certification required prior to beginning position
  • High school or GED graduation required
  • Certification by AAMA, AMT, NHA-CCMA, NCMA or ARMA required
  • BLS required
  • Level I: No experience required
  • Level II: At least 1 year of clinical experience as a Medical Assistant in a clinical setting
  • Level III: At least 3 years of clinical experience as a Medical Assistant in a clinical setting
  • 1 year of experience will be provided for an Associate degree in Medical Assisting
  • Level II and III applicants must meet all requirements in the Medical Assistant, Certified (CMA/RMA) Ladder Program document
  • Ability to lift heavy items and assist with transporting patients in stretchers or wheelchairs
  • Knowledge of sterile techniques, patient treatments, sanitation, hygiene, health and safety, infection control and safety measures
  • Age-specific competency
  • Ability to perform registration, scheduling, charge posting and order entry
  • Ability to document and communicate information clearly
  • Typing skills and knowledge of medical terminology required for Levels II and III
  • Ability to independently seek resources and work collaboratively
