About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Provide direct patient care as an integral member of the interdisciplinary healthcare team
  • Collect medical histories and monitor vital signs
  • Explain treatments and prepare patients for examinations and procedures
  • Assist medical staff with patient care
  • Gather and prepare lab samples and conduct basic lab tests
  • Perform EKGs, remove sutures/staples, change dressings, and educate patients and families
  • Document care in medical records
  • Dispose of contaminated supplies, process instruments, and clean medical equipment
  • Call in prescriptions, prepare and administer medications as instructed by the doctor, and handle prescription refills
  • Greet patients, answer calls, schedule appointments, check out patients, and handle referral scheduling
  • Coordinate hospital admissions and lab services and update medical records
  • Complete forms, receive copays, collect balances, handle correspondence, and order supplies
  • Assist with clinic activities such as Joint Commission or fall prevention efforts and participate in clinic committees
  • Perform other clinical and administrative tasks as assigned

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Certified Medical Assistant certification required prior to beginning position
  • High school or GED graduation required
  • Certification by AAMA, AMT, NHA-CCMA, NCMA or ARMA required
  • BLS required
  • Level II: At least 1 year of clinical experience as a Medical Assistant in a clinical setting
  • Level III: At least 3 years of clinical experience as a Medical Assistant in a clinical setting
  • Level II and III applicants must meet all requirements in the Medical Assistant, Certified (CMA/RMA) Ladder Program document
  • Ability to lift heavy items and assist with transporting patients in stretchers or wheelchairs
  • Knowledge of sterile techniques, patient treatments, sanitation, hygiene, health and safety, infection control, and age-specific competency
  • Ability to document and communicate clearly, build effective relationships, seek resources independently, and work collaboratively
  • Typing skills and medical terminology knowledge for Levels II and III
  • Strong customer service skills and ability to follow oral and written instructions
