About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Collect umbilical cord blood units for the Carolinas Cord Blood Bank at various sites
  • Report to the collection site Team Lead
  • Promote public cord blood banking
  • Educate potential mothers/donors about public cord blood donation
  • Assist in obtaining informed consent from mothers/donors
  • Review maternal and infant medical records to obtain delivery and neonatal information
  • Accurately record donor information and follow up with clinical staff as needed
  • Enter collection and donor information into CCBB data systems
  • Ensure maternal blood samples are collected for infectious disease testing according to standard operating procedures
  • Assist with follow-up sample collection when needed
  • Collect umbilical cord blood from delivered placentas according to standard operating procedures
  • Deliver collected cord blood to the CCBB laboratory for processing and storage
  • Maintain confidentiality of maternal/infant donor identities and test results
  • Participate in the Quality Assurance Program
  • Perform related duties supporting donor education, recruitment, collection, and banking of cord blood

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Generally requires a bachelor's degree; biology, health science or other related field preferred
  • Candidates must currently live in or be in the process of moving to the Charlotte, NC Metro Area
  • Phlebotomy skills preferred
  • Phlebotomy certification/experience preferred
  • Bilingual skills, especially Spanish, preferred
  • Self-directed team player
  • Excellent analytical skills and good judgement
  • Strong operational focus
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and customer service skills
  • Data management including entering data
  • Ability to focus and manage numerous detailed pieces of information
  • Ability to work Monday-Friday, 12:30 pm-9:00 pm
