About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Assist the Director of the Duke Global Health Institute with operational agenda, scientific interests, communications, philanthropy, research, and vision
- Draft and develop internal and external communications
- Coordinate and participate in faculty meetings to determine program or center objectives
- Support DGHI Administrative and Development teams in identifying internal and external resources
- Provide context, background information, and draft briefs to the Director and constituents
- Develop and maintain working relationships with staff, faculty, Institute and University leadership
- Triage the Director's priorities and speak on his behalf
- Serve as liaison with outside educational and professional organizations and agencies
- Coordinate arrangements for special programs and speaker series
- Assist with grant proposals and applications, including data compilation and budget preparation
- Monitor and verify expenditures and ensure compliance with University and sponsoring agency policies
- Prepare administrative reports for sponsoring agencies
- Interpret and create program protocols, procedures, and operating policies
- Assist with developing academic course content
- Prepare scientific publications, biosketches, research proposal documents, and slide decks
- Prepare operational reports and analyses with recommendations or conclusions
- Serve as departmental liaison concerning University policies, grant administration, and budgetary preparation and control
- Supervise and coordinate designated employees
- Assist the Director with schedule planning and professional and research agendas
Requirements
What you’ll need- General business background, generally equivalent to a bachelor's degree in a business-related field
- 2 years of related business or administrative experience
- Familiarity with general personnel practices, accounting and budgeting principles, and coordination of major office activities
- A master's degree in a business-related field may be substituted for 2 years of experience
- Any other equivalent combination of relevant education and/or experience
- Ability to travel with the Director to outside events
- Ability to speak on the Director's behalf
- Ability to supervise and coordinate designated employees
- Ability to prepare grant proposals, budgets, reports, scientific publications, biosketches, research proposal documents, and slide decks
- Ability to interpret and create program protocols, procedures, and operating policies
- Ability to develop course content for academic courses
