About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Plan and provide professional nursing care for patients according to medical and nursing plans of care and established policies and procedures
  • Provide nursing services to patients and families within the scope of an RN as defined by the North Carolina Board of Nursing
  • Plan, provide, supervise, and document professional nursing care using the nursing process
  • Use professional nursing judgment to individualize care plans based on patient assessment and response to care
  • Delegate tasks and supervise licensed and unlicensed care providers
  • Assist nursing personnel and act as team leader or charge nurse for assigned patients or units
  • Monitor and initiate corrective action to maintain the care environment, equipment, and material resources
  • Maintain required competencies and pursue professional development
  • Act as preceptor and support development of staff and formal learners
  • Identify clinical or operational performance improvement opportunities and participate in improvement activities
  • Perform other related duties incidental to the role

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Graduation from an accredited Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing (or higher), Associate's Degree in Nursing, or Nursing Diploma program
  • Registered nurses without a Bachelor's degree in Nursing (or higher) must enroll in an appropriate BSN program within two years of their start date and complete it within five years, subject to stated exceptions
  • Twelve months of appropriate clinical experience
  • Current or compact RN licensure in the state of North Carolina
  • BLS certification required
  • Knowledge of the scope of registered nurses, licensed practical nurses, and unlicensed staff
  • Knowledge and appropriate application of the nursing process
  • Knowledge of professional theory, practice, and procedure
  • Ability to assess nursing needs of acute and chronically ill patients and their families
  • Ability to seek resources independently and work collaboratively
  • Ability to communicate clearly with patients, families, visitors, healthcare team, physicians, administrators, leadership, and others
  • Ability to teach patients and families according to the nursing plan of care
  • Ability to use sensory and cognitive functions to process and prioritize information, treatment, and follow-up
  • Fine motor skills
  • Competence in BLS and/or other specialized life support requirements designated by the work area
  • Ability to record activities and document assessments, plans of care, interventions, evaluations, and re-evaluations of patient status
  • Ability to use computers and learn new software programs
  • Ability to document and communicate pertinent information using computer and/or paper documentation tools
  • Ability to navigate the entity to provide clinical care
  • Ability to withstand prolonged standing and walking
  • Ability to remain focused and organized
  • Working knowledge of procedures and techniques involved in administering routine and special treatments
  • Working knowledge of infection control procedures and safety precautions
  • Working knowledge and completion of The Joint Commission and other regulatory requirements
  • Pre-employment Physical Capacity Testing required
