About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Independently plan and provide professional nursing care for patients according to physician orders and established policies and procedures
  • Provide nursing services to patients and families within the RN scope defined by the North Carolina Board of Nursing
  • Plan, provide, and document nursing care using the nursing process under the supervision of the team leader or charge nurse
  • Delegate tasks and supervise licensed and unlicensed care providers
  • Assist healthcare personnel in delivering patient care
  • Maintain the environment of care, including equipment and material resources
  • Prioritize work organization and identify resources to complete care promptly
  • Maintain required competencies and seek appropriate learning assistance or educational offerings
  • Support the development of other staff and formal learners
  • Identify clinical or operational performance-improvement opportunities and assist with improvement activities
  • Perform other related duties incidental to the role

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Graduation from an accredited BSN program
  • Registered Nurses without a Bachelor's degree in Nursing (BSN) or higher must enroll in an appropriate BSN program within two years of their start date and complete it within five years
  • One year of RN experience required for Level II Registered Nurses
  • Current or compact RN licensure in the state of North Carolina
  • BLS required
  • Knowledge of the registered nurse, licensed practical nurse and NCA scope
  • Knowledge and appropriate application of the nursing process
  • Ability to assess nursing needs of acute and chronically ill patients and their families
  • Ability to communicate clearly with patients, families, visitors, healthcare team, physicians, administrators, leadership and others
  • Ability to teach patients and families in accordance with the nursing plan of care
  • Competency in BLS and/or other specialized life support requirements designated by the work area
  • Ability to record activities, document assessments, care plans, interventions, and patient-status evaluations
  • Ability to use computers and learn new software programs
  • Working knowledge of routine and special patient-treatment procedures and techniques
  • Working knowledge of infection-control procedures and safety precautions
  • Working knowledge and completion of appropriate JCAHO and other regulatory requirements
  • Pre-employment Physical Capacity Testing required
  • Ability to withstand prolonged standing and walking
