About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Plan and provide professional nursing care according to medical and nursing plans of care, physician orders, policies, and procedures
  • Provide nursing services to patients and families within the scope of an RN defined by the North Carolina Board of Nursing
  • Use the nursing process and professional judgment to individualize patient care plans
  • Delegate tasks and supervise licensed and unlicensed care providers
  • Assist nursing personnel and act as team leader or charge nurse when assigned
  • Monitor and initiate corrective action to maintain the care environment, equipment, and material resources
  • Maintain required competencies and pursue professional development
  • Act as preceptor and support the development of staff and formal learners
  • Identify and participate in clinical or operational performance improvement activities
  • Perform other related duties incidental to the role

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Graduation from an accredited BSN program
  • Graduation from an accredited Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing (or higher), Associate's Degree in Nursing, or Nursing Diploma program
  • Registered nurses without a Bachelor's degree in Nursing (or higher) must enroll in an appropriate BSN program within two years of their start date and complete it within five years
  • Twelve months of appropriate clinical experience required
  • Current or compact RN licensure in North Carolina required
  • BLS required
  • Knowledge of registered nurse, licensed practical nurse, and unlicensed staff scopes
  • Knowledge and appropriate application of the nursing process
  • Ability to assess acute and chronically ill patients and their families
  • Ability to communicate clearly with patients, families, visitors, healthcare teams, physicians, administrators, leadership, and others
  • Competency in BLS and/or other specialized life support requirements designated by the work area
  • Ability to document patient assessments, care plans, interventions, and evaluations
  • Ability to use computers and learn new software programs
  • Working knowledge of routine and special patient treatments
  • Working knowledge of infection control procedures and safety precautions
  • Working knowledge and completion of Joint Commission and other regulatory requirements
  • Pre-employment Physical Capacity Testing required
  • Ability to withstand prolonged standing and walking
