About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Float technologist for Rickert, Clay and Oak Lawn.
- Work rotating Monday–Friday shifts of 7:30am–4pm and 11:30am–8pm.
- Work two weekend days per month from 7:30am–4pm.
- Perform complex diagnostic MRI procedures from inception to completion under radiologist direction.
- Perform routine MRIs and MRAs.
- Take accurate verbal patient histories and start IVs to administer IV contrast.
- Maintain a positive imaging environment and act as patient liaison to the radiologist.
- Perform quality assurance checks on equipment and procedure areas.
- Ensure MRI safety standards and ferromagnetic-material controls are met.
- Explain emergency shutdown procedures and demonstrate fire and safety evacuations.
- Check patient transfer/transport equipment for safe operational compliance.
- Operate required equipment using established MRI guidelines and protocols.
- Complete protocolling tasks and perform ordered examinations according to written MRI protocols.
- Properly identify patients using three unique identifiers.
- Introduce self using name and role title and explain procedures in lay terms using educational aids or interpreters when necessary.
- Allow time for patient questions and verify MRI screening forms and information.
- Start IV access, select appropriate IV sites and catheters, perform venipuncture, and inject contrast under physician direction.
- Select and prepare correct IV contrast and injection parameters; monitor and document injections.
- Generate QA documentation when infiltration or reaction occurs.
- Prepare and position patients according to MRI protocols to achieve the highest-quality images.
Requirements
What you’ll need- Graduate of an accredited education program in MRI required.
- ARRT Registered Technologist, RT(MR) or ARMRIT Certified Technologist required.
- BLS – Basic Life Support, AED Adult & Pediatric CPR required.
- Minimum of one year MRI imaging experience.
- Ability to stand for prolonged periods and frequently bend/stoop and reach overhead, extensively, and repetitively.
- Ability to perform repetitive computer keyboard motion.
- Attention to detail and ability to write legibly.
- Ability to lift/push/pull 50–100 lbs.
- Ability to manipulate MRI coils, table, and accessory equipment.
- Ability to reach equipment at heights greater than 6 feet.
- Ability to assist in moving patients from stretcher, wheelchair, or bed to and from MRI table.
- Adequate eyesight to observe patient condition, read MRI computer screen/imaging equipment, and evaluate MRI images for appropriate image quality.
- Sufficient hearing to respond to patient verbal inquiries, communicate with care personnel, and respond to audible alarms and signals.
- Ability to multitask simultaneously.
- Ability to maintain self-composure and a positive attitude under stress.
