About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Provide direct nursing care to patients receiving radiation therapy
  • Coordinate care with physicians and the broader care team
  • Monitor patient needs and provide education and support
  • Serve as a resource for patients and families throughout treatment
  • Practice safe work habits, proper body mechanics, and infection control procedures
  • Report safety matters, data, and specific cases appropriately
  • Consult and coordinate with healthcare team members to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care
  • Assist providers with patient histories, vital signs, routine exams, procedures, specimen collection, and processing
  • Observe, record, and report patient conditions and reactions to treatments or drugs
  • Administer medications, perform dressing changes and wound care, provide skin care, administer oxygen, and monitor oxygen saturation
  • Triage treatment-related patient messages and phone calls and prioritize same-day messages
  • Assist with arranging tests, emergency response services, inpatient information, prescriptions, and oncology coordination
  • Coordinate referrals to dieticians, physical therapists, social workers, home care, Hospice, ostomy nurses, transportation coordinators, oncology services, financial counselors, and ancillary services
  • Collaborate with healthcare team members to ensure patient needs are met and continuity of care
  • Perform other assigned duties

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Current license to practice in the State of Illinois as a professional nurse
  • Obtains continuing education credits as required
  • Maintains BLS certification
  • OCN certification highly preferred
  • Prefer a minimum of 2 years of professional nursing experience in a clinical or hospital setting; new graduates may be considered under specific circumstances
  • Current oncology experience highly preferred
  • Ability to work Monday-Friday, 7:30 a.m.-4:00 p.m.
  • Full-time availability, 40 hours per week
