About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Perform an extensive number of data collection functions, as delegated by the physician, to allow for proper diagnosis of patients' conditions.
- Interact with all patients using respect and professionalism.
- Communicate with patients about processes and procedures during their visits.
- Ascertain patient needs and unusual circumstances via patients or family members.
- Seek advice from senior staff or doctors as necessary and never perform beyond capabilities.
- Provide telephone support regarding ocular emergencies, prescription refills, and patient care questions.
- Adhere to approved policies and procedures.
- Obtain patient history, including chief complaint, history of present illness, past history, family history, and history of allergies and medications.
- Complete accurate, concise documentation in the Electronic Medical Record (EMR).
- Perform patient care procedures including visual acuity, visual fields, motility and pupillary function tests, applanation and tono-pen tonometry, refractometry, angle assessment, pupil dilation, automated visual field testing, ophthalmic imaging, OCT retina and optic nerve scanning, corneal topography, keratometry, and pachymetry.
- Maintain exam rooms by cleaning between patients and at the end of the day.
- Clean and sterilize instruments.
- Prepare to take certification test.
- Maintain HIPAA compliancy.
- Travel to clinics in Hinsdale, Glen Ellyn, Naperville, and Bloomingdale as needed.
Requirements
What you’ll need- High School diploma or equivalent
- Certified Ophthalmic Technician (COT) or is in the process of getting certification
- Must get COT certification within one year of being employed
- Minimum of 2 years of experience working in ophthalmology/optometry setting
- Fundamental experience working with standard ophthalmic evaluation equipment
- Must maintain HIPAA compliancy
- Must prepare to take certification test
