About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Perform extensive data collection functions delegated by the physician to support proper diagnosis
- Interact with patients using respect and professionalism
- Communicate processes and procedures during patient visits
- Ascertain patient needs and unusual circumstances
- Seek advice from senior staff or doctors as necessary and avoid performing beyond capabilities
- Provide telephone support for ocular emergencies, prescription refills, and patient care questions
- Adhere to approved policies and procedures
- Obtain comprehensive patient histories
- Complete accurate documentation in the Electronic Medical Record (EMR)
- Perform patient care procedures including visual acuity, visual fields, motility and pupillary function tests, tonometry, refractometry, dilation, automated visual field testing, ophthalmic imaging, OCT, corneal topography, keratometry, and pachymetry
- Maintain exam rooms by cleaning between patients and at the end of the day
- Clean and sterilize instruments
- Prepare to take certification test
Requirements
What you’ll need- High School diploma or equivalent
- Certified Ophthalmic Technician (COT) or is in the process of getting certification
- Must get COT certification within one year of being employed
- Minimum of 2 years of experience working in ophthalmology/optometry setting
- Fundamental experience working with standard ophthalmic evaluation equipment
- Must maintain HIPAA compliancy
