About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Greet patients in a friendly manner by phone or in person.
  • Develop and maintain effective working relationships with internal physicians and scheduling staff at facilities.
  • Verify patient personal and insurance information and coordinate pre-op testing per insurance.
  • Serve as the single point of contact for internal staff and external inquiries for scheduled procedures.
  • Schedule and/or reschedule pre-op lab and other testing before procedures and surgeries as necessary.
  • Contact patients to confirm procedures or surgeries.
  • Explain and verify proper prep instructions with patients and route to a nurse when appropriate.
  • Prepare essential paperwork for the referral coordinator and facilities.
  • Verify daily doctors' schedules and print and distribute them to appropriate personnel.
  • Maintain strict patient confidentiality.
  • Work with billing staff to ensure procedures are charged.
  • Cover or fill in for co-workers as needed.
  • Track case volume and direct cases to facilities according to management direction.

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Medical terminology, verbal and written.
  • CPT and ICD-9 coding.
  • Referral process.
  • Must have the ability to learn new computer programs.
  • Act professionally towards customers, physicians, and co-workers.
  • Must be able to multitask and prioritize.
  • Must possess time management skills.
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • 2+ years prior surgery scheduling, telephone, computer and customer service experience.
  • Travel required to other sites as needed, including Lockport and Joliet.
