About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Perform mammography procedures in a technically proficient manner
- Follow department protocols and specific radiologist direction
- Corroborate patient's clinical history with procedure and document information according to department standards
- Prepare patients for procedures, provide instructions, obtain cooperation, and minimize anxiety
- Select and operate breast imaging equipment and associated devices
- Position patients and equipment to best demonstrate the anatomic area of interest
- Explain the need for breast compression while respecting patient ability and comfort
- Apply radiation protection principles to minimize exposure
- Assist with stereotactic biopsies, with training available if needed
- Participate in staff meetings with employee involvement
- Maintain positive work relationships with co-workers, physicians, and healthcare team members
- Maintain an orderly and clean work area
- Maintain confidentiality regarding patient and organizational information
- Maintain adequate department supply levels
- Work under the supervision of the Manager and Breast Radiologist
- Perform breast imaging examinations to assist medical diagnosis or cancer screening
Requirements
What you’ll need- Graduate of an accredited Radiologic Technology Program
- Registered Radiologic Technologist (ARRT) with advanced certification in Mammography is required
- Active ARRT certification status maintained by fulfilling continuing education requirements
- Illinois State Licensure (IEMA)
- CPR Certification
- Mammography experience preferred but not required
- Stereotactic biopsy experience a plus
- Interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to present required
- Knowledge of computer-based applications, email and standard applications such as Microsoft Office
- Working knowledge and skills of a mammography technologist
- Ability to perform daily tasks and duties of a technologist, including patient care and completion of clinical exams
