About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Provide desktop support primarily for UK-based users and factory systems, including hardware, software and infrastructure
  • Ensure service requests and incidents are addressed promptly in accordance with SLAs and business impact
  • Resolve service desk issues and escalate to line management when required
  • Maintain the IT asset register, service contracts and aligned Active Directory hardware records
  • Maintain Active Directory employee information and archive/remove expired email accounts
  • Set up IT equipment and users according to defined procedures and identify process improvements
  • Create and maintain documentation for IT incidents and services
  • Review IT documents and procedures to keep information current and accurate
  • Maintain support and security for servers, desktops and laptops
  • Create and maintain user IDs and Active Directory accounts
  • Research network products, services, protocols and standards
  • Administer hardware and software upgrades
  • Assist with the Microsoft 365 environment, including Teams and licence allocation
  • Maintain firewall, antivirus and intrusion-detection security solutions
  • Perform daily maintenance of switches, routers, firewalls, servers and other network equipment
  • Develop, agree and maintain structured IT Service Level Agreements with the business and IT Managers
  • Increase use of the Global Service Desk system
  • Maintain effective relationships with internal teams and suppliers
  • Support corporate compliance, finance and DPA audits, GDPR, security and disaster recovery
  • Keep current with technologies and innovations and identify improvements to company performance
  • Connect with industry forums and attend annual conferences

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Good understanding of Service Desk processes and operations
  • Understanding of general business practices, specifically within a construction, service management or manufacturing environment
  • Experience of all elements of front line service desk activities
  • Ability to resolve complex functional and technical issues on a daily basis
  • Excellent customer focus and customer service skills
  • Experience of SQL Server (multiple versions) and system development
  • Knowledge of the ITIL Service Management process
  • Experience of business analytical tools and processes
  • Ability to work to tight deadlines and scope while providing creative input
  • Ability and attitude to provide superior user service and support
  • Ability to work as an effective team member
  • Good oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from users
  • In-depth knowledge of Microsoft products
  • Prior experience in server and network administration
  • Experience with backup and recovery applications
  • 2+ years of technical/network support experience preferable
  • Ability to read, analyse, apply and improve technical procedures
  • Ability to read and interpret procedure manuals, business periodicals, professional journals, operating and maintenance instructions, and safety rules
  • Native English speaker; additional languages are an advantage
  • Service delivery exposure with a high degree of customer and communication skills
  • Broad experience of software development/application management through the full systems lifecycle
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • University degree in computing desirable
  • Supplier/partner operational management experience in outsourced/third-party support desirable
  • Experience of Big Data and Analytics, e.g. Power BI desirable
