About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Report to the Controller and work under moderate supervision from the Functional Manager
- Maintain, post, and balance accounting and financial statements, records, documents, and reports
- Assist with journal entries, account reconciliations, and compilation of financial information
- Develop special reports for reconciliations, internal controls, and financial management
- Assist with month-end and year-end close processes
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to investigate and resolve financial discrepancies and variances
- Ensure compliance with accounting policies and procedures
- Provide supporting documentation and analytical information for internal and external audits
- Participate in finance and accounting process improvement initiatives
- Process and review routine accounting transactions for accuracy, completeness, approvals, and policy compliance
- Review employee expense and travel transactions
- Perform corporate credit card reconciliations and follow up on missing documentation or approvals
- Support vendor payment activities, including ACH, positive pay, payment inquiries, and routine vendor account issues
- Provide customer service to employees and vendors regarding accounts payable, expense, travel, credit card, and other accounting matters
- Complete account reconciliations, research discrepancies, and resolve routine reconciling items
- Assist with journal entries, transaction corrections, and general ledger activity
- Maintain accurate accounting records and supporting documentation
- Research routine accounting questions and discrepancies and resolve issues using established procedures
- Support audit preparation and ongoing improvements to accounting processes and internal controls
- Perform other accounting duties as assigned
Requirements
What you’ll need- Cover letter must be submitted with the resume

- High school diploma or GED, plus two years of accounting experience, or Associate degree in accounting, finance, or related field with at least one year of accounting experience
- Intermediate Excel spreadsheet proficiency
- Experience with MSOffice, Google Suites, Slack, Zoom, and similar tools
- Stable internet connection supporting video calls and an EarthScope computer with cloud-based computer programs
- Ability to work across multiple accounting functions and adapt to changing departmental priorities
- Experience with corporate credit card administration and reconciliation preferred
- Experience supporting accounts payable and vendor payment activities preferred
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent professional experience in Accounting, Finance, or a related field preferred
- Deltek CostPoint experience preferred
- Concur or other expense report software experience preferred
- Ability to handle confidential and sensitive information with discretion, diligence, and good judgment
- Ability to understand accounting principles and practices
- Ability to understand procurement standards and contracts
- Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and accuracy
- Strong mathematical and reasoning skills
- Ability to compute, analyze, and interpret data
- Strong written and oral communication skills
- Strong customer service orientation
- Ability to work effectively with financial data and accounting support schedules in Excel
- Appropriate availability consistent with EarthScope practices; hours may exceed 40 hours per week, particularly when traveling
- Ability to meet physical requirements, including standing, sitting for extended periods, hand and finger dexterity, talking/hearing, and occasionally lifting up to 10 pounds
