About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Provide on-campus and virtual support to college students with disabilities as they adjust to academics and navigate campus living
  • Maintain primarily onsite presence at UMass Lowell and potentially other nearby colleges in Northeast Massachusetts
  • Develop semester action plans addressing each student’s transition-to-college goals
  • Provide one-to-one coaching for higher education and independent living goals
  • Support executive functioning skills including time management, organization, and scheduling
  • Identify barriers and problem-solve with students and college staff
  • Create a supportive environment between the college and the student
  • Advocate for students by identifying needs and explaining them to college staff
  • Maintain documentation monitoring and evaluating client progress
  • Communicate with referring agencies and the program manager through monthly notes and weekly check-ins
  • Meet work-site and referring-agency expectations, standards, and protocols
  • Assist students with Blackboard, Canvas, Moodle, and other online learning platforms
  • Help students understand college culture and expectations
  • Assist with assistive technology when applicable
  • Review potential referrals for other ESMA programs and services with the program manager
  • Provide program improvement ideas
  • Attend transition-related conferences and represent Easter Seals Transition Services at local and state meetings when requested
  • Resolve routine administrative problems
  • Adapt communication style for individuals with different communication abilities
  • Interface regularly with students, families, disability professionals, and educators

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor’s degree in related field required; and/or Master's degree in related field
  • Experience with young adults with disabilities preferred
  • Knowledge of pertinent academic areas and learning situations, including Blackboard, Moodle, and Canvas
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Teams)
  • Working knowledge of Zoom video conferencing
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Health documentation clearing for work
  • COVID-19 vaccine strongly preferred due to campus policies
  • Full-time availability Monday-Friday
  • Ability to start as early as 8 am and work as late as 5 pm depending on student schedules
  • Own daily reliable transportation to commute between campuses
  • Ability to work independently or in groups with minimal supervision
  • Ability to work standard hours between 8 am and 5 pm
  • Ability to communicate effectively by phone and in person with professionals and clients with various disabilities
  • Ability to organize projects, prioritize workflow, and complete multiple tasks simultaneously and accurately
