About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Design and build backend services behind loyalty features, from earning and redemption to partner integrations
- Ensure every points balance and reward is correct, traceable, and reconciled in every market
- Integrate with loyalty and payment partners
- Investigate failures, fix root causes, and improve reliability signals and observability
- Partner with product, design, and mobile engineers to ship end-to-end features
- Review code, protect correctness with tests, and mentor engineers
- Build earn-and-redeem flows connecting EatClub dining to customers’ existing loyalty programs
- Launch loyalty partner integrations across Australia, the UK, and New Zealand
- Own and improve the points and rewards ledger
- Build reconciliation tooling tracing rewards from meals to partner statements
- Replace manual processes and support tickets with product features
Requirements
What you’ll need- At least 5 years of software engineering experience
- Strong backend foundation in Java or a comparable modern language
- Track record of delivering significant projects end-to-end in production
- Experience designing and building REST and GraphQL APIs and the services behind them
- Solid SQL and NoSQL skills, including query tuning and performance work
- Experience integrating with third-party partners and making those integrations reliable
- Experience debugging intermittent production issues to root cause and preventing recurrence
- Proficiency in automated testing and writing testable code
- Excellent written and verbal communication, and ability to work day to day with product and design
- Fluency with AI development tools and judgement about where they help and where they mislead
- Background in fintech, payments, or another domain where correctness is measured in cents (extra awesome)
- Understanding of ledgers and payment systems (extra awesome)
- Experience with loyalty, rewards, or card-linked offer programs (extra awesome)
- Experience with serverless AWS stack, including Lambda, API Gateway, AppSync, and S3, plus event-driven systems and Terraform (extra awesome)
- Interest in growing into full-stack work; mobile experience is not required (extra awesome)
- Experience building automated CI/CD pipelines (extra awesome)
- A love of restaurants and dining out (extra awesome)
