About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Maintain legal department calendars, including litigation deadlines, regulatory examinations, meetings, and reporting requirements
  • Process legal invoices and coordinate billing matters with outside counsel and vendors
  • Maintain litigation tracking logs and case status reports
  • Maintain contract files, assist with contract intake and routing, and coordinate signature and storage processes
  • Liaise with outside counsel regarding case updates, documentation, and deadlines
  • Track and document all mail received within the Legal department
  • Assist with legal team research projects
  • Assist with researching and coordinating responses to employee legal and compliance-related questions
  • Coordinate assignment, tracking, and follow-up for requests submitted through the Request Management System
  • Assist in writing and updating Legal Department procedures
  • Maintain legal records, files, and matter documentation according to retention requirements, confidentiality standards, and department procedures
  • Maintain accurate information in legal department systems, trackers, and shared resources
  • Assume additional responsibilities supporting the growth, development, and operational effectiveness of the Legal Department and the Credit Union
  • Serve as backup to the Legal Operations Manager as assigned

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • 3+ years of experience providing legal department, compliance, executive, or administrative support
  • Financial services experience preferred
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent interpersonal and conflict resolution skills
  • Knowledge of legal terminology and legal processes
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple priorities in a deadline-driven environment
  • Ability to interpret complex or diverse information, especially from government or legal sources
  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office suite, including Word, Excel, and Outlook
  • Ability to learn to work in Lexis Nexis legal research
  • Ability to understand business operations and apply sound judgement when supporting legal, compliance, and organizational priorities
  • Sound judgment with the ability to prioritize and make decisions, identify emerging risks, and coordinate effectively with internal and external resources in a hybrid environment
  • Professional presence and the ability to communicate and collaborate effectively with senior leaders, internal stakeholders, outside counsel and law firm partners
