About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Provide technical oversight of key process development activities at a strategic Indian contract development and manufacturing organization (CDMO)
  • Act as the technical bridge between Lilly scientists and the CDMO
  • Review and influence CDMO strategies
  • Ensure alignment with Lilly requirements
  • Escalate risks and develop mitigation plans
  • Deliver technical solutions enabling deeper understanding of processes and products across the portfolio
  • Develop new synthetic routes using modern technologies, including continuous processing and automated reaction screening
  • Understand interactions between chemistry and equipment for manufacturing raw materials, intermediates, and drug substances
  • Develop robust processes capable of error-free scale-up for reliable clinical trial material supply
  • Deploy digital tools for advanced modelling and seamless digital technology transfer
  • Design and analyse experiments to deepen process understanding and optimize reaction conditions
  • Collaborate with analytical development scientists and manufacturing engineers to translate processes from bench to pilot plant scale
  • Collaborate with diverse groups across the value chain and multiple locations
  • Document all work appropriately
  • Coach and mentor peers and other scientists
  • Promote a culture of scientific excellence, collaboration, safety, and compliance

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Ph.D. in scientific disciplines of Organic Chemistry/Chemistry
  • Ph.D/Post Doc in Chemistry, focusing more on process chemistry
  • 8+ years of experience
  • Deep technical expertise and training in modern synthetic chemistry
  • Demonstrated track record of original contributions to chemical design and mechanism-based problem solving for synthesis of complex molecules and/or methodology development
  • Ability to learn across small molecules, peptides, and oligonucleotides
  • Experience with continuous processing, automated reaction screening, and computational chemistry collaboration
  • Understanding of scientific principles for manufacturing raw materials, intermediates, and drug substances
  • Experience developing robust processes capable of error-free scale-up
  • Experience deploying digital tools for advanced modelling and digital technology transfer
  • Ability to design and analyse experiments and optimize reaction conditions
  • Collaboration with analytical development scientists and manufacturing engineers
  • Proven track record working with diverse groups across the value chain and in multiple locations
  • Ability to navigate ambiguity and move between scientific challenges
  • Ability to document work appropriately
  • Strong interpersonal skills for collaboration
