About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Execute day-to-day media relations and influence activity across traditional and emerging platforms
- Manage media pitches, inbound inquiries, and ongoing reporter relationships
- Contribute to enterprise media and influence strategy using audience and data insights
- Create media strategies for milestones, product launches, and media events
- Map and build Lilly's modern media ecosystem and cultivate relationships across new verticals and platforms
- Develop and pitch proactive stories connecting Lilly's pipeline, business performance, and corporate initiatives to patient impact and innovation leadership
- Support product announcements and high-stakes media events, including media plans, materials, spokesperson preparation, and post-event follow-up
- Prepare executives and subject matter experts through briefing materials, talking points, and Q&As
- Support strategic placements including interviews, bylines, podcasts, and speaking opportunities
- Partner with global communications counterparts across therapeutic areas, business development, investor communications, and external communications functions
- Track coverage, sentiment, share of voice, and message pull-through
- Use data and audience insights to demonstrate media impact on perception and business outcomes
Requirements
What you’ll need- Bachelor's degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, Marketing, or a related field
- 6 years of experience in communications, media relations, or public relations
- Demonstrated experience building and implementing media and influence strategies across traditional outlets and emerging platforms
- Experience in communications, media relations, or influence at a Fortune 500 company, large pharmaceutical or healthcare organization, or major newsroom
- Ability to build and maintain relationships with independent creators, podcasters, newsletter writers, community moderators, and influencers
- Proficiency in audience data, social listening, and media analytics
- Experience translating financial performance, scientific innovation, and corporate strategy into narratives for varied audiences
- Experience in product communications within healthcare or medicine preferred, but not required
- Experience proactively storytelling beyond landmarks and product launches
- Experience navigating matrixed global organizations
- Deep understanding of the pharmaceutical industry and healthcare landscape, including regulatory, scientific, policy, and patient topics
- Familiarity with communications trends and tools, including AI-enabled platforms
- Proactive, bias for action, test-and-learn mentality, and curiosity
- Approximately 15–20% domestic travel, with occasional international travel
