About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Lead cross-functional Clinical Design teams for Phase II to Phase IV neuroscience clinical programs and studies
  • Translate therapeutic-area and asset-team strategy into clinical development program and trial options
  • Present trial-design options to asset teams and senior leaders and adjust recommendations based on feedback
  • Bring medical and clinical perspectives to study protocol design
  • Assess how study/protocol features affect feasibility, value, patient and investigator burden, and execution efficiency
  • Contribute to asset strategy, target patient population identification, portfolio clinical strategy, and asset-specific clinical plans
  • Collaborate with clinical research staff on trial design and conduct, including sample size, patient commitment, timelines, grants, and governance interactions
  • Address regulatory expectations and clinical capabilities, including trial decentralization, diversity, accessibility, and patient burden
  • Review risk profiles and ensure appropriate communication of risks to study subjects through protocols
  • Support investigator identification and selection, participant recruitment and retention, and transition from design to execution
  • Maintain collaborations with external experts, thought leaders, professional societies, conferences, and consortia
  • Participate in scientific data dissemination, final reports, publications, and clinical design science initiatives
  • Evaluate medical literature, competitive-product data, and scientific developments relevant to the therapeutic area and products
  • Identify, apply, and share best practices for program and protocol design
  • Collaborate to improve protocol approval and study-startup processes and evolve Lilly standards, tools, templates, and practices
  • Provide clinical leadership in developing standardized and simplified processes, templates, and tools

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Medical Doctor or Doctor of Osteopathy
  • Must be board eligible or certified in a relevant field, or have completed comparable post-medical school clinical training relevant to the country of hiring
  • US-trained physicians must have achieved board eligibility or certification
  • Non-US-trained physicians must have completed education and training at a medical school meeting LCME requirements
  • At least 3 years of pharmaceutical industry or research experience relevant to Phase II to Phase IV clinical trial design
  • Board certification or eligibility within Neuroscience or a related area strongly preferred
  • Clinical research experience in the therapeutic area
  • Strong understanding of therapeutic area pathology, pathophysiology, unmet needs, and treatment standards in major geographies
  • Strong foundation in statistical science, including Bayesian statistics, applied to study design
  • Ability to communicate effectively with statisticians and translate complex principles into design optionality and protocols
  • Global/multinational design or development experience
  • Willing to relocate to Indianapolis; alternatively, demonstrated ability to work effectively remotely in a hybrid environment
  • Willingness to travel for business-critical events and limited domestic and international travel
  • Fluent in English, with strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong interpersonal, organizational, and negotiation skills
  • Ability to influence cross-functionally and within the function
  • Understanding of how design elements translate into delivery
  • Strong communication across presentations, meetings, protocols, regulatory documents, and varied stakeholders
  • Experience routinely using AI to accelerate deliverables
