About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Identify applicable engineering design standards, functional standards, specifications, and regulatory requirements
  • Own overall design delivery for capital projects
  • Coordinate design throughout all project phases for the Project Manager
  • Deliver conceptual design reviews and basic design reviews
  • Direct development of design requirements
  • Assist with development and maintenance of design schedules
  • Participate in selecting architecture/engineering firms and verification professional services
  • Coordinate with A/E firms to develop earned-value progress systems by discipline
  • Expedite design decisions and coordinate information flow between design teams and system owners
  • Ensure designs meet approved intent through coordination with design firms, specialists, technical center disciplines, and end users/customers
  • Govern design activities and resolve design-related problems
  • Identify inefficiencies and develop strategies to improve design-hour performance
  • Develop and maintain standard operating procedures, project delivery work instructions, and design/verification best practices
  • Review and approve key internal and external design project personnel with the Project Manager
  • Address design issues with Engineering Tech Center and project technical/constructability resources
  • Ensure design replication where applicable
  • Support value-engineering exercises to maximize project opportunities
  • Review design-related invoices and participate in KPI reviews and assessments

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • BS in Engineering
  • Minimum of 10 years of manufacturing and/or engineering experience supporting pharmaceutical or API networks
  • Authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis
  • Lilly will not provide support for or sponsor work authorization or visas for this role
  • Additional preference: BS in Chemical or Mechanical Engineering
  • Pharmaceutical process or project engineer experience
  • Strong project management skills
  • Ability to effectively facilitate conflict to resolution
  • Ability to influence all levels of project and site personnel
  • Understanding of capital project delivery processes and A/E design activities
  • Understanding of Lilly technical resources, including user representatives, Engineering Tech Center resources, and design specialists
  • Demonstrated values consistent with Lilly values
  • Ability to frame complex decisions/analyses, facilitate decisions, and implement according to plan
  • Ability to create credibility and influence alignment among sites, corporate engineering, A/E firm decision-makers, and stakeholders with differing opinions
  • Experience facilitating issue resolution, anticipating scope changes, and implementing projects safely with quality, speed, and value
  • Willingness to relocate and/or travel outside the home state/country
  • Demonstrated ability to work long distances with little supervision
  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally, averaging about 25% depending on project phase
