About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Provide technical oversight of key process development activities at a strategic Indian CDMO
- Act as the technical bridge between Lilly scientists and the CDMO
- Review and influence CDMO strategies
- Ensure alignment with Lilly requirements
- Escalate risks and develop mitigation plans
- Design and optimize drug substance chemical processes for synthetic molecules
- Apply engineering fundamentals and scientific principles to develop robust processes for scale-up
- Develop complete synthetic processes involving relevant unit operations
- Identify and implement innovative solutions to development challenges
- Monitor emerging trends in process engineering
- Deploy digital tools for advanced modelling and digital technology transfer
- Navigate multidisciplinary scientific challenges and ambiguity
- Document all work appropriately
- Coach and mentor peers and other scientists
- Promote a culture of scientific excellence, collaboration, safety, and compliance
Requirements
What you’ll need- Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering with 8+ years of experience
- Extensive knowledge of process scale-up
- Knowledge of chemical reaction kinetics, heat and mass transfer, fluid dynamics, thermodynamics, and process modelling
- Knowledge of synthetic process design and unit operations including crystallization, filtration, isolation, drying, batch and continuous chemistry, milling, solids transfer, and liquid handling equipment
- Familiarity with applicable regulatory requirements
- Experience deploying digital tools for advanced modelling and digital technology transfer
- Strong interpersonal skills for collaboration
- Demonstrated self-initiative and appropriate risk-taking
- Ability to learn and apply technical knowledge to meet changing project needs
- Ability to prioritize multiple activities and handle ambiguity
- Ability to work flexibly across multiple time zones
- Willingness to travel up to 20%
