About the role

Key responsibilities & impact

Identify and prioritize cross-squad problems including platform modernization, authentication, dependency health, and security
Shape initiatives with Staff Engineers, defining problems, scope, timelines, and technical risks
Present cross-cutting work to R&D leaders for cycle prioritization
Support teams delivering cross-cutting work and technical decisions
Hire, develop, direct, and coach Staff Engineers
Judge technical tradeoffs and stand behind team decisions
Lead Ellevation’s security practice and establish ownership and escalation
Integrate security findings into engineering tools and workflows
Build threat modeling into work planning
Coordinate incident response, vendor and third-party risk, security awareness, questionnaires, and penetration testing
Own compliance evidence and coordinate contributions across engineering and product
Manage Ellevation’s relationship with Curriculum Associates’ central security organization
Collaborate on security standards, SLAs, KPIs, scanning configuration, and reporting
Report weekly to CA stakeholders on remediation progress, blockers, and security KPIs
Represent Ellevation in CA security forums
Report to the VP of Engineering and participate in R&D leadership decisions

Requirements

What you’ll need

10+ years in software engineering, including experience leading engineering teams
Experience hiring and leading senior and staff-level engineers, and growing them as technical leaders
Track record of taking large, ambiguous technical problems spanning teams through delivery, working through teams that did not report to you
Strong technical foundation in modern web applications, cloud infrastructure, and CI/CD
Background in application security, cloud security, compliance, and incident response
Hands-on experience with SAST, SCA, and dependency scanning tooling
Experience moving decisions forward in a matrixed organization
Track record of communicating technical and security risk to executive audiences
Experience with sensitive or regulated data is a strong plus
