About the role

Key responsibilities & impact

Own end-to-end product design for web and mobile, from discovery and user flows through wireframes, prototypes, and polished UI
Frame problems before solving them by talking to users, studying their workflows, and challenging requirements when appropriate
Build Abaka AI’s design system from scratch, including foundations, tokens, and a shared component library
Design consistent experiences across products and platforms
Partner closely with engineers to prototype, hand off designs, and review implementation quality
Use research, usability testing, and product data to validate decisions and improve live products
Help shape team processes through design reviews, critique, and product-team workflows

Requirements

What you’ll need

1–4 years of experience in UI/UX design or a related role, with shipped work
Portfolio showing web and mobile product design, including responsive web and native iOS/Android patterns
Strong UX fundamentals: information architecture, interaction design, user flows, and usability
Strong visual craft: layout, typography, hierarchy, and attention to detail
Evidence of systems thinking: reusable components, patterns, or a design system
Fluency in Figma and rapid prototyping
Ability to explain and defend design decisions to engineers and stakeholders in clear written and spoken English
Experience with design tokens, theming, and accessibility standards (WCAG) preferred
Ability to prototype in code (HTML/CSS, React) or comfort using AI tools in the design workflow preferred
Experience designing data-dense or workflow-heavy tools preferred
Background in AI products, data platforms, or work involving remote expert contributors preferred
