About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Complete fire sprinkler layouts in accordance with current NFPA, building, and underwritten standards
  • Identify hazards and appropriate protection from contract documents
  • Work within project budgets and estimate and schedule project hours
  • Coordinate work with other trades on complex projects and resolve coordination problems
  • Cut and tag pipe with appropriate fittings for fabrication and purchasing
  • Select all required installation materials
  • Operate AutoCAD and Hydratec or AutoSPRINK layout programs
  • Run Navis Works and develop clash reports
  • Produce drawings, hydraulic calculations, material takeoffs, and material submittals
  • Complete project paperwork for internal processes, AHJ approval or certification, and general contractor requirements
  • Identify contract versus non-contract work and alert appropriate personnel in writing
  • Troubleshoot and identify potential problems before they occur
  • Communicate project tasks and provide accurate information to customers in face-to-face meetings
  • Teach trainees and junior designers
  • Potentially serve as project leader, direct team members, and provide regular status reports to the Manager
  • Collaborate with S.A. Comunale, sales, fabrication, and project manager teams
  • Work toward company objectives and personal performance goals
  • Operate in compliance with company safety practices

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • High School Diploma or GED is required
  • 3+ years of fire protection design experience is required
  • Engineering background is a plus
  • Mechanical aptitude is required
  • Proficiency in either Hydratec CAD programs or AutoSPRINK is required
  • NICET Certification is a plus
  • Ability to conduct a field survey alone or with others to obtain all proper dimensions and information is required
  • Ability to travel to job sites by plane or vehicle required
  • Ability to think strategically, make sound decisions, and produce accurate and timely results is required
  • Building positive working relationships with multiple levels of employees and management is required
  • Demonstrating integrity and professionalism is required
  • Demonstrating commitment to company values is required
  • Excellent organizational skills are required
  • Ability to follow-up on tasks and assignments in a timely manner is required
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills are required
  • Ability to prioritize in a fast-paced multi-task environment is required
  • Ability to perform basic business mathematical functions is required
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision is required
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment is required
  • Complying with all operating policies, procedures, executed Plans, and Programs is required
  • Must have demonstrated ability to effectively communicate, cooperate, and collaborate with employees, government agencies, customers, vendors, and suppliers
  • Knowledge and understanding of applicable fire codes, including NFPA 13, 14, 20, 22, and 24
  • Ability to operate AutoCAD and Hydratec or AutoSPRINK layout programs
  • Ability to run Navis Works and develop clash reports
  • Ability to understand technical reports, technical instructions, layout work, drawings, and business documents
  • Ability to meet the physical and environmental demands of the role
