Fire Sprinkler Layout Technician

About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Create and lay out fire sprinkler systems within NFPA, building, and underwritten standards
- Collaborate with Senior Layout Manager, sales, fabrication, and project manager teams
- Complete sprinkler layouts, drawings, hydraulic calculations, material takeoffs, and material submittals
- Identify hazards and appropriate protection from contract documents
- Coordinate work with other trades on complex projects and resolve coordination problems
- Cut and tag pipe with appropriate fittings for fabrication and purchasing
- Select required materials for installation
- Run Navis Works and develop clash reports
- Estimate and schedule project hours and work within project budgets
- Complete project paperwork for internal processes, AHJ approval or certification, and GC requirements
- Identify contract versus non-contract work and alert appropriate personnel in writing
- Troubleshoot and identify potential problems before they occur
- Communicate project tasks and provide accurate information to customers
- Teach Trainees and Junior Designers
- Potentially lead projects and direct team members; provide regular status reports to the Manager
- Achieve company objectives and personal performance goals
- Operate in compliance with company safety practices
- Conduct field surveys and travel to job sites
Requirements
What you’ll need- High School Diploma or GED is required
- 3+ years of fire protection design experience is required
- Mechanical aptitude is required
- Proficiency in either Hydratec CAD programs or AutoSPRINK is required
- Ability to conduct a field survey alone or with others to obtain all proper dimensions and information is required
- Ability to travel to job sites by plane or vehicle required
- Knowledge and understanding of applicable fire codes, such as NFPA 13, 14, 20, 22, 24 and others
- Ability to complete sprinkler layouts according to current NFPA standards
- Ability to identify hazards and appropriate protection from contract documents
- Ability to coordinate work with other trades on complex projects and resolve coordination problems
- Ability to operate AutoCAD and Hydratec or AutoSPRINK layout programs
- Ability to run Navis Works and develop clash reports
- Ability to estimate and schedule project hours
- Ability to produce drawings, hydraulic calculations, material takeoffs, and material submittals
- Ability to complete project paperwork for internal processes, AHJ approval or certification, and GC requirements
- Engineering background is a plus
- NICET Certification is a plus
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Excellent organizational skills and ability to prioritize in a fast-paced, multi-task environment
- Ability to work with minimal supervision and effectively in a team environment
- Ability to perform basic business mathematical functions
- Ability to comply with operating policies, procedures, plans, programs, and safety practices
