About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Create and lay out fire sprinkler systems according to current NFPA, building, and underwritten standards
  • Work with the Senior Layout Manager
  • Collaborate with sales, fabrication, and project manager teams
  • Provide excellent customer service and communicate accurate job information to customers
  • Complete sprinkler layouts, hydraulic calculations, drawings, material takeoffs, and material submittals
  • Identify hazards and determine appropriate protection from contract documents
  • Coordinate work with other trades on complex projects and resolve coordination problems
  • Cut and tag pipe with appropriate fittings for fabrication and purchasing
  • Select materials required for installation
  • Operate AutoCAD with Hydratec or AutoSPRINK layout programs
  • Run Navisworks and develop clash reports
  • Estimate and schedule project hours while working within project budgets
  • Complete project paperwork for internal processes, AHJ approval or certification, and general contractor requirements
  • Identify contract and non-contract work and notify appropriate personnel in writing
  • Troubleshoot and identify potential problems before they occur
  • Teach trainees and junior designers
  • Potentially lead projects, direct team members, and provide regular status reports to the Manager
  • Work toward company annual objectives and personal performance goals
  • Follow company safety practices
  • Travel to job sites by plane or vehicle and conduct field surveys

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • High School Diploma or GED is required
  • 3+ years of fire protection design experience is required
  • Engineering background is a plus
  • Mechanical aptitude is required
  • Proficiency in either Hydratec CAD programs or AutoSPRINK is required
  • NICET Certification is a plus
  • Ability to conduct a field survey alone or with others to obtain all proper dimensions and information is required
  • Ability to travel to job sites by plane or vehicle is required
  • Ability to think strategically, make sound decisions, and produce accurate and timely results
  • Ability to build positive working relationships with multiple levels of employees and management
