About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Provide technical assistance and support to the sales department throughout the preconstruction and pre-sales process
  • Participate in job walks
  • Develop design-and-build scopes
  • Write proposals and prepare budgets and estimates
  • Prepare project schedules and conduct value analysis
  • Ensure regulatory compliance
  • Perform material takeoffs and calculate labor hours for HVAC retrofit, major service repair, piping, and sheet metal projects
  • Review construction documents and prepare sketches for proposed retrofit solutions
  • Prepare accurate and complete final estimate packages before formal proposal submission
  • Gather estimating information from account managers, end users, engineering and estimating teams, vendors, and other sources
  • Interpret field conditions and determine project direction and costs for large-scale mechanical retrofit projects without drawings, plans, or specifications
  • Submit written scopes of work, project schedules, engineering solutions, conceptual estimates, project delivery methods, and construction economic and accounting information
  • Generate complete and accurate sales and Excel spreadsheets compliant with Title 24
  • Perform constructability and code compliance reviews and document and communicate risks
  • Apply knowledge of the California Mechanical Code and local municipal codes
  • Compile qualifications, clarifications, exclusions, and budget assumptions for clients
  • Prepare replacement equipment, sheet metal, piping, and labor estimates
  • Obtain scopes of work and pricing from subcontractors and suppliers
  • Assist with pricing change orders

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Mechanical Engineering degree or equivalent experience
  • 10+ years of Estimating, Engineering, Construction Management, or Business Management experience required
  • 4+ years’ experience with HVAC design and building construction
  • Knowledge of the practical application of mechanical engineering, including redline-designs, design techniques, plans and specifications and the RFQ & RFP process for the budgeting and bidding of retrofit projects
  • Thorough knowledge of the mechanical retrofitting of commercial buildings, hospitals, data centers, K-14, and universities, including energy projects that involve integration, DDC, engineering, commissioning, M&V, and energy analysis
  • Knowledge of materials, methods, and tools involved in the mechanical retrofit of commercial buildings
  • Competent technical knowledge of the construction means and methods of mechanical construction, including retrofit projects, budgeting, engineering redline designs, scheduling, phasing, and planning
  • Ability to plan, organize, coordinate, direct, and control all aspects of the bidding process
  • Ability to work with customers to find mutually satisfactory solutions to complex issues
  • Ability to work with management and various skilled and unskilled salespeople, professional, administrative, and industry personnel
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, Project, and Word
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
